Welcome to the artPW Metadata Project!
The artPW (Artist Portfolio Website) Application Profile is comprised of 22 elements, borrowing from Dublin Core, VRA Core, and schema.org while also having its own created elements. The ArtPW AP’s created elements are tagged with “artpw”. The AP is designed to be as flexible to as many different types of art and art scenarios as possible, with 11 mandatory elements forming the “core” of the record and 11 optional elements. Controlled Vocabulary Lists (see Appendix) were created for two elements, and ISO 8061-1 format is required for dates and ISO standards are required for units of measure, but otherwise it is up to the artist how they choose to describe their work.
I chose to make this AP because of my background as an artist and as an opportunity to restart my portfolio website. Many of the elements I chose were because of how I could apply them to the bulk of my work (comics and illustrations), but I recognize there could be some that would be applicable to other types of media that I may have missed. Therefore, I made several additional optional elements to try to account for art/art scenarios that one may come across and I did my best to utilize all in my sample records, though some I did not have any information that could fit with the element (ie. For artpw:currentLocation, I have nothing currently on display, so this one unfortunately went unused). All artwork from my sample records is from my undergraduate art portfolio, and I chose works based on the variety of type and not necessarily most recent or what I would include in my real portfolio now.
